Derek is a visionary and experienced leader with a passion for serving people.  He has a passion for real estate and community development.  Derek is an experienced real estate professional and alumnus of Baylor University.  He has been involved in selling, building, developing, and consulting real estate for over 13 years. Derek sold real estate in Houston, TX from 2006-2014, was a board member and real estate director of Southeast Houston Community Development Corporation (http://www.esuvclc.org/home/default.asp) from 2009-2012 where 125 homes were built including a community learning center. Over the last 7 years, Derek has saved commercial property owners over a billion dollars in property taxes as a property tax consultant through appraisal evaluation methods. Derek secured a multi-million dollar contract in 2010 with a publically traded commercial real estate firm with a previously owned business. His passion to develop and revitalize communities has been a central part of his life from an early age. He grew up in transitional and underserved neighborhoods in Houston, TX.  His goal is to redevelop communities that are facing transitional issues through holistic community development. He subscribes to the principal of thoughtful community development: The process of meeting a community’s needs through real estate development and collective action. His goal is to create a positive lasting impact on any communities served.  He believes in revitalization without gentrification! His life is devoted to spreading the love of Jesus Christ through his life as an example, his professional work, community action, and service to those in need.  He is happily married to his college sweetheart Bianca Avery, and they have three children Derek JR., Madison, and Bryce.
