Eva Ruth Moravec

Eva Ruth Moravec is the founding executive director of the Texas Justice Initiative, a nonprofit that provides the public with data on the Texas criminal justice system. She is also a freelance reporter who has covered criminal justice, government and public safety for 15 years. While getting her Master's degree, Moravec started a database from scraped officer-involved shooting reports and wrote a series about the cases that ran in three Texas newspapers. That database became the foundation for TJI, which maintains a publicly-available data portal and acts as a data collection watchdog. Her reporting has appeared in the Washington Post, ProPublica, The Daily Beast, The New York Times, The Atlantic, the Associated Press, the San Antonio Express-News, and many other state and local publications.
